Paul Gow locked in as special guest speaker at Nambucca Centenary Dinner

100 years strong at Nambucca Heads as Paul Gow confirmed

ONE hundred years back in the roaring ’20s, locals on the Mid North Coast decided to start a golf course.

Not one, but three. In 2026, the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club celebrates its centenary, as does Coffs Harbour and Grafton.

A special history book tracking the tumultuous and delightful journey of Nambucca is being produced – with recurrent themes of relocation and thoughts thereof, financial challenge and of course the F-word … flood.

Nambucca will celebrate its milestone with a Centenary Cup two-day 36-hole golf tournament on Wednesday-Thursday 24-25 June. This is an open event for male and female players.

Paul Gow – two-time US Open player and host of numerous TV golf shows – is the special guest speaker at a centenary dinner on Saturday 27 June. Tickets for this one-off event are on sale now and are being snapped up fast – contact the club or miss this once-in-your-lifetime moment.

Limited edition centenary golf shirts are also available.

Trying to smash a ball over the river was a hoot at Nambucca back in the day until the fun police raided.

On course, it’s been a smidge moist this past week, so much so that the only ridgey didge competition completed was a single stableford on Wednesday 27 May.

Steadier than a jeweller cutting a precious pink diamond, Glenys Thompson won the day with 35 points.

The 16-marker had a start more unpalatable than tripe with 6-7 which only kids find amusing before rattling home in 41 off the stick round the back including four pars.

The ball run saw Henny Oldenhove, Dianne O’Leary, Deidre Fletcher and Judith Boyle collect.

Not enough for a comp, but the five men who embraced the moist on Thursday were John Buganey (36 points in the Toyota Genuine Service non-event), Bill Mann, John Morgan, Colin Dunne and Chris Lucas.
