CAGEY pennant-playing duo of Graham Watson and Karl Hobday etched their name on an honour board event with a tight victory in the men’s Foursomes Championships at the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course.
Club Champion Watson and big-bombing Hobday had 75 off the stick in the Good Time Charlie’s event on Saturday which is a notoriously difficult format of alternate shots.
They finished one better than the Macksville pairing of Brad Fortescue and Matt Baker.
In the nett, Ben Venner/Norman Devereaux carded 72 ahead of runners up Matt Dyer/Steven Wall on 72.5.
The ‘sorry, mate’ prize for a shocker went to Ray Guiana/Scott Burley who manufactured 90 nett in what must have been a day so long at the office that Fair Work investigators have swooped.
Kevin Wilson binned the longest putt on the 1st for the Ecomist prize pack and pins went to Dan Wren on 5, Peter Farrell on 7, Bruce Wilson on 8, Simon Day on 15 and Paul Ryan on 18. Phillip Frost will have a cheesy smile of satisfaction after hitting it handy on 13 for the Pizza This Pizza That voucher.

Bowra St cafe Good Time Charlie’s was again to the fore as sponsor of the stableford on Thursday 11 June when Macksville’s Grant Ellis (19 handicap) returned the best score of the day with 38 points. His round included five pars and a bird on the long 11th to head home Paul McElhinney (29) on 35 points in Div 2.
Dan Wren (12) saluted in Div 1 with 36 points on a countback from Ken Klem (10).
Andy Mackinnon binned the putt from afar on 1 and pins were snatched by Greg McCoy on 5, Wren on 7, Peter Thompson on 8 and Fortescue on 15. Paul Ryan won the frisbee on 13 and McElhinney capped a mighty day with the $65 Pro Pin on the last.
Christine Crowley (24) flits between Nambucca and her home course in Sydney which has The King’s blessing, and she ruled benevolently with 70 nett – best of the day in the women’s Monthly Medal on Wednesday 10 June.
Crowley was laser-like with three pars on three of the par threes – 7, 8 and 13, to head home Liz Hobday (15) in Div 1 by four points.
Mullumbimby’s Wendy Welch had 72 nett for the ‘W’ in Div 2, one clear of Rhonda Rowe (31).
Fiona Chaffey secured the NTP on 5, Kerrie Eichorn on 13 and Glenys Thompson on 18.
Cindy and Daryl Wall hit everything but their surname with a stonking 49 points to smash the Island Sunday fourball best ball sponsored by L Parkes and R Rowe.
Runners up were the McCanns, Geoff and Coral, on 45.
Pins went to Hannah Richard on 5, Cindy Wall on 13, and Geoff Brooks and Henny Oldenhove on 18.
The Mid North Coast Veterans single stableford on Tuesday 9 June saw starters from Nambucca, Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Sawtell, Hawks Nest, Bonville, Macksville, Bowraville, Dorrigo, Urunga, South West Rocks and one from the high country of Coolamatong Snowy Mountains Country Club at Berridale.
Bradley Nesbitt (16) trumped Div 1 with 36 points on a countback from Dennis Hardgrove. Neil Thomas (20) saluted in Div 2 with 34 points from Ray Lemire (22), also on a countback.
