When Les is not Mohr as final cards roll in at Nambucca Heads

Women's Monthly Medal winners at Nambucca Heads, Shayne Scott, Glenys Thompson and Jenny Thorne.

LES Mohr was the clubhouse leader for a long time and finished with the second best score of the day – but it ended in lament at the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course on Saturday.

The cagey 28-marker posted 41 points but was run down late for the Div 3 honours and then pipped in a countback for runner-up.

Not that a $2 ball in the rundown is ever Les’s greatest concern, as he’ll tell all who’ll listen over a beer that he and the rest of humanity will be “deleted” by AI come 2028. Surely the bots will start the extermination with the C Graders in the war on the fumbling.

Martin Turner (once was 25 handicap) annihilated the field with 45 points to win Div 3 of the Drew Walker Plumbing medley stableford.

Turner had 85 off the stick including five pars and a bird on the last to head home Kay McGoldrick (34) who charged with 41 points.

Paul Finn (14) took the honours in Div 1 with 40 points to win on a countback from Peter Farrell (7). Finn carded 12 pars – an incredible achievement for his handicap – but something nasty happened on the 14th.

Div 2 was a battle of the 17-markers as Bradley Harricks carded 39 points to head home Grant Ellis by two.

Andrew Bagust binned the putt from range on the 1st for the Ecomist prize pack and was nearest the pin on the 8th. Dennis Ashton also had a double-dip with the pins on 5 and 15, while Daryl Wall was closest on 7. Trevor Peter boxed the Pizza This Pizza That prize on 13 and Steven Wall pocketed the $90 Pro Pin on the last.

Peter Moxon's tee shot on 11 ended rudely above ground, imprisoned in a paperbark. Fortunately, preferred lies were in effect.

Redland Bay’s Justin Thrift (10) won the Div 1 Drew Walker Plumbing medley stableford on Thursday 17 September with 40 points, one better than clubmate Geoffrey Bradshaw (also 10).
Mohr was not to be denied in Div 2. Playing off a 30 handicap he spanked with 43 points for the W, six clear of runner-up Andrew Bagust (28).
Clinton Lavender drained the putt from afar on 1 and pin-botherers were Tristram Edwards on 5, Ken Klem on 7, Glen Crow on 8 and Garry Johnstone on 15. Garry Thurlow jockeyed the pizza on 13 and Keith Wallis has $70 in his kick after hitting it handy on 18.
Shayne Scott (44) ran riot with 62 nett to scorch everyone in the women’s Monthly Medal on Wednesday 16 September. Great Scott’s Div 3 parade included seven bogeys.
Glenys Thompson (17) won Div 1 with a measured 67 nett, and Jenny Thorne (25) saluted for the Div 2 medal.
Gross winners were Thompson, Scott and Heather Gray. Elizabeth Hobday and Coral McCann shared the pins on 5, Thorne on 13 and Maxine Townsend banked the $32 Pro Pin on the 18th.

Urpo Ylinen (21) was peerless with 65 nett to win the medley stroke Challenge on Tuesday 15 September, two clear of Daryl Wall. NTP card writers were Stuart Johnston on 8, Colin Habgood on 13 and Michael Tarleton on the last.
Shayne Scott capped a great week on The Island, partnering with Lyn Parkes, to win the Mid North Coast Pennant Foursomes nett with 63.5 on Monday 14 September.
Locals Sue Brooks and Jenny Thorne showed their class to take the gross with 92.
Heather Gray and Annie Waters nudged the pins on 13 and 18 respectively.
Catchya on The Island where the course could use a drink more than the punters on the river deck – and be sure to get your name down for the Good Time Charlie’s Cup on 4-5 October with thousands of dollars in prizes up for the taking.
